Why I Chose to Leave the Corporate World and Move Home to Scotland

For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived life at full speed - juggling deadlines, projects, and travel while trying to keep one foot in the world of wellness that I love so much. For the past year, I have been teaching Pilates in London alongside a busy corporate job that had me constantly on the go. I loved both in different ways - the structure and challenge of my career, and the creativity and connection that came from teaching movement. But somewhere along the way, I started to feel it: the fatigue, the burnout, and the quiet voice in the back of my mind telling me that something had to change.

I realised I was craving a slightly slower, more intentional life - one that felt aligned with my values. So, after some time thinking and planning, I made the decision to move home to Scotland with my fiancé and, at the start of October, I officially left my corporate job to pursue something that feels more meaningful and creative - a life rooted in wellness.

It’s been daunting at times - stepping away from the stability of a corporate career is never an easy choice - but I know deep down that it’s the right one. I feel lighter, calmer, and more inspired. There’s something incredibly special about being back home, surrounded family & friends, a new community, and space to breathe.

This next chapter is about creating a life that feels balanced and authentic - teaching Pilates, putting my energy into more creative things, and building something that truly aligns with who I am. I know it’s just the beginning, but already, it feels worth it.

Things I’ve Learned So Far

  1. Leaving my job didn’t bring instant happiness - and that’s okay.
I take great pride in my career and worked incredibly hard throughout my twenties to move up the ranks. To suddenly not have that structure or identity tied to my job was daunting, and it’s taken time to adjust. I’m learning to trust my gut and remind myself that it will be worth it. If you’re in the same position, know that I understand - it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

  2. Movement really is medicine.
I feel so much better physically now that I’m not sitting at a desk in front of a screen all day. It’s been a powerful reminder of how vital movement is - not just for our bodies, but for our minds too.

  3. You can’t please everyone - and you don’t need to.
Life is long (if you’re lucky), and not everyone will agree with your decisions or connect with your Pilates style - and that’s completely okay. There will always be plenty of people who do, and they’re the ones you’re meant to reach.

If you’re standing at a crossroads, unsure whether to take that leap - I hope this reminds you that it’s okay to choose a different, maybe braver path.

Change is rarely easy, but growth never is.

Trust that every step, even the uncertain ones, are leading you somewhere that feels more you. I’m still finding my rhythm, but every day feels a little lighter, a little freer, and a lot more aligned - and that’s what I think true wellness is all about.
